                               Learning process

            The Department of Basic Sciences provides teaching of such disciplines as: physics, general physics, optical communication physics, theory of electrical connection, technical electrodynamics, higher mathematics, higher and applied mathematics, applied mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, numerical methods,  computer discrete mathematics, discrete structures, linear algebra, mathematical analysis, and others.

           The teachers of the department publish methodical recommendations for students of all forms of study. The tasks for independent work of students, as well as control tasks from the above mentioned disciplines are developed. For the current quality control of knowledge, a system of control works, test tasks, which are used during the certification tests of each academic semester, is developed. For all disciplines there is a methodical provision of practical and laboratory work. Most methodological recommendations are available electronically. In addition, the website of the University hosts electronic textbooks and various information that is actively used in the educational process.

          The department has the whole complex of scientific and methodological support, defined by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, necessary for its effective functioning, state standards of education: curricula; syllabuses on all normative disciplines, textbooks and manuals; instructional materials for practical and laboratory classes; tasks for individual work of students from educational disciplines; test tasks; control works on educational disciplines; methodical materials for students on independent study of professional literature.

         The teachers developed and updated the texts of lectures, detailed plans of laboratory and practical classes, prepared sets of test tasks for current and final control of students' knowledge. An electronic database (lectures, labs, tests, tasks for individual work, questions for self-control, literature, etc.) for each discipline has been created.

         Continuous work is done on the introduction of modern teaching technologies. The lectures are practiced with the help of multimedia systems, as well as in advance to the students with reference notes, the use of pedagogical and methodological tasks, business games, discussions. The best students are given the right to study according to individual plans.

                          Scientific activities  of the department

Scientific directions of the department: solid state physics; physics of semiconductors and dielectrics; Theoretical and applied issues  of  mathematical physics, which are realized in:

- the study of tensoresistive effects in silicon and germanium crystals at high uniaxial pressures;

- research of electrophysical properties of multi-valves semiconductors;

- mathematical studies of various systems.

The research work is carried out in cooperation with the Institute of Physics of Semiconductors of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Physics and Mechanics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Department of Experimental Physics and Information and Measurement Technologies of Lesya Ukrainka   Eastern  European National  University.

The department has created a research laboratory of solid state physics, where  studies of electrical, tenosoelectric and galvanomagnetic properties of semiconductors are conducted. At present, at this laboratory there is a project of applied research "Development of a complex of controlled properties of multi-valves semiconductors and polymer composite materials for operation in extreme operating conditions".

Along with that, the associate professor S. Luniov  and the postgraduate student of the department A. Zimich  are  co- executors   of the target topic of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine "Elementary processes in the interaction of photons and electrons with matter in the gas and condensed phases", which is carried out jointly with the Department of Photonuclear Processes of the Institute of Electronic Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Students of the university are widely involved in research projects. There are 3 scientific clubs for students  at the department.  

  Educational and laboratory base of the Department of Basic Sciences

         The department created a material and technical base that allows  to organize  the educational process at an appropriate level.

Auditory fund of the department consists of 5 educational laboratories,1 research laboratory, 3 auditoriums for lectures and practical classes, 2  rooms  for teaching staff. The total area covered by the department is approximately 650 square metres.

 The department created:

Laboratory "Mechanics and Molecular Physics".

Laboratory "Electricity".

Laboratory "Electromagnetism, Oscillations and Waves".

Laboratory "Optics".

Laboratory "Solid State Physics".

        The laboratory is equipped with PCs, stands for laboratory works, measuring instruments. informational and methodical stands are arranged in the study rooms, laboratories, which contain information on the rules of labor protection, fire safety, the list of topics of laboratory and practical classes, the ones that are submitted for independent study, the literature  on   recommended disciplines of the department for studying.

            The prospects for the development of the educational material base are aimed at improving the professional level of students and they  include the upgrading of existing laboratories  with  computers of a new generation, the establishment of new laboratory works
