Brief history of  the  department

          The department of   "Instrumentation engineering " was created in accordance with the order of the Lutsk Industrial Institute No. 141, December 27, 1995 "About organizational and structural changes in the institute" separated from the graduate department "Metal-cutting machine tools and systems" as a separate subdivision.

The  department  consisted of 6 teachers and 3 laboratory assistants. It was located in the building   2 in the street  Potebni, 56. The total area of ​​all laboratories was more than 500 square metres.

           In 1990, the speciality " Instrumentation engineering" was licensed. The training of special subjects  was provided by the teachers of the department "Metal-cutting machine tools and tools". In 1995, the section "Instrument-making" at the department "Metal-cutting machine tools and tools"   carried out the first graduation of specialists in the speciality " Instrumentation engineering."

In 1996, the Department of   Instrumentation engineering  carried out the first graduation   of mechanical engineers in the field of "  Instrumentation engineering     ".

           In connection with the reorganization of higher education in 1997, the new curriculum for a 3-step form of education (bachelor-specialist-master) was revised and approved and the name of the speciality was changed to "Fine Mechanics Devices".

In 2003, the department  licensed  the speciality "Medical devices and systems" and made the first set of students to the energy-saving faculty.

           At present, the teaching process at the department is provided by 15 teachers, among them   there is one doctor of sciences, a professor, and 14 candidates of sciences, 8 of them have a rank of associate professor.

In 2010, the speciality "Metrology and Information-Measurement Technologies" was opened and the first set of students was implemented. In 2015, the first graduation of specialists in this speciality was conducted at the     Department of  Instrumentation engineering  of the  Faculty of Ecology.

        In the process of training specialists in the specialities "Metrology and Information and Measuring Technology", "Micro and nanosystem engineering " and "Electronics", teachers of the leading departments of the Lutsk National Technical University take part. But  the teachers of the department "Instrumentation engineering"  play a  kea role.   

Teachers of the Department carry out work in the following areas:

• Educational activity;

• educational and methodical activity;

• research activity;  

• vocational guidance activities.







            Specialities of the department and their characteristics.


     The first set of students of the speciality " Instrumentation engineering"   was in 1990.  Currently, the department carries out the training of bachelors, masters of the knowledge field "Automation and instrumentation engineering" in the specialities "Metrology and information-measuring equipment" and "Miro- and nanosystem technology"; the  knowledge " field   "Electronics and Telecommunications" speciality "Electronics".

       Modern life can not exist  without electronics. These are on-board computers of vehicles, measuring equipment, diagnostic equipment, various medical and biological equipment, and so on.

       Studying on the speciality "Electronics" in specialities:

- technical security;

- biotechnical and medical devices and systems;

- technical means of diagnosing road transport

raises the level of knowledge in various fields of professional and practical electronics, modern information processing systems, security equipment, fire alarm systems, measurement and data processing methods and graphical presentation of results.

     Students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in the design, production, operation, testing and maintenance of analogue and digital systems, equipment, electronic and telecommunication systems. They also acquire skills in the practical use of computer tools.

Graduates of the speciality  " Electronics " receive engineering and technical  qualifications and can work in the field of design, construction, operation, diagnostics and repair of electronic systems of vehicles, medical and biological and other technological equipment at enterprises, both state and non-state forms of ownership.

     Graduates of the speciality can work in the following areas:

• Informational microelectronic systems;

• Biomedical electronics;

• Computer diagnostic tools;

• Electronic engineering of power and microprocessor systems;

• Electronic computer systems;

• Computer processing and information protection;

• Diagnostic tools for road transport;

• Security systems and fire alarm systems;

• Informational-computer facilities of electronic apparatus building;

• Problem-Oriented Electronic Computing.

    The field of activity of specialists is the technological and design preparation of production, installation, operation and maintenance of security systems, on-board electronic systems of vehicles, computer diagnostics and biomedical electronics.

      To enter the speciality "Electronics" you need to have certificates of external  independent  testing:

1. Ukrainian language and literature;

2. Mathematics;

3. Physics or biology or foreign language.


      Modern production and life can not be imagined without such industry as automation and Instrumentation engineering", which is designed to help solve various issues of manufacturing and non-productive areas of human activity. An important factor in the precise and qualitative operation of devices and information-measuring systems is the correspondence of their displays and measurement results.



Speciality "Metrology and information-measuring technology " prepares specialists in specialities:

- information and measuring systems of technical means;

- metrology and measuring   technology,

whose activities are related to the provision of metrological supervision of devices and equipment of various purposes, various measurements.

     Graduates of the speciality "Metrology and Information and Measurement technology" receive engineering and technical qualifications in preparation and can work in the field of design, construction, operation, calibration and repair of medical and general technical devices and measuring systems used in the enterprises of instrument-making, machine-building, food, light and other industries of both state and non-state forms of ownership.

     The graduate has the right to work in the production, design, and operational divisions of enterprises and organizations associated with the operation, maintenance and repair of devices and systems.

     A graduate may hold positions:

• engineer-designer;

• engineer-metrologist;

• engineer-electrician;

• Quality engineer;

• Standardization and certification engineer;

       The sphere of activity of specialists is to control the technological or design preparation of the production, installation and operation of equipment of machine-building, device-making and other enterprises, organizations and institutions. They can also engage in referral or marketing activities in their respective departments.

        To enter the speciality "Metrology and Information and Measurement Technology"  you need  to have certificates of the External Independent Testing:

1. Ukrainian language and literature;

2. Mathematics;

3. Physics or biology or foreign language.




Speciality "Micro and nanosystem technology" trains specialists in specialities:

- computer integrated systems and technologies of fine mechanics;

- microsystem technology and technology

in the field of micro and nanosystem technologies - a fundamentally new and dynamically developing field of science and technology at the junction of the two most progressive areas of practical knowledge - microelectronics and mechanics. Fundamentally new properties are nanosystems and devices created entirely or partially on the basis of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies.

     Graduates of the speciality "micro and nanosystem engineering" have the engineering and technical direction of training and can work in the field of designing, constructing, exploiting and repairing micro and nanosystem equipment at the enterprises of instrumental, machine-building, food, light and other industries, as well as in medical institutions of the Health Care Ministry,   in enterprises both state and non-state forms of ownership. Graduates from this field of knowledge can be employed in research and development institutes.

      The professional activity of specialists is related to the development of manufacturing technologies, calculation methods, design and diagnostics of microelectromechanical and nanoelectromechanical systems, nanoblocks and nanostructured materials, metrological assurance of measurements on micro and nano-level, and determination of mechanical properties of materials and components in the micro and nano-scale.

        A specialist in the field of micro and nanosystem technology has the right to work in the production, design, research and operational divisions of the device-making enterprises and organizations associated with the operation, maintenance and repair of devices and systems. They can also work in the production, design, research and operational divisions of the  device-making enterprises, producing measuring devices, medical devices, and organizations related to the operation, maintenance and repair of measuring and medical devices and systems.

     Specialist in micro and nanosystem engineering may hold positions:

• engineer-designer;

• engineer-metrologist;

• engineer-electrician;

• engineer-technologist;

• medical equipment engineer.

      To enter the speciality "Metrology and Information and Measurement Technology"  is necessary to have certificates of the External Inventory:

1. Ukrainian language and literature;

2. Mathematics;

3. Physics or biology or foreign language.


                                       Scientific activity of the department


           Qualitative indicators of the teaching staff are the result of the strategy of the graduate department, aimed at forming a team of highly professional specialists who teach the most important disciplines of curricula, are engaged in research and teaching and methodical work, have a perspective to enhance scientific and pedagogical skills.

           Teachers of the Department carry out research activities in the following scientific areas:

1. "Technological control of quality  parameters  and operational characteristics of machine parts  and devices for machining operations."

2. "Development and research of methods and devices for medical biology diagnostics".

3. "Improvement of automated systems of active control and control of processes of grinding parts of roller bearings".

4. "Development of technological processes of customs and non-destructive control with the use of special technical means".

5. "Investigation of processes of vibration abrasive processing of parts of devices".

          The responsible person  for scientific work at the department is  the candidate of technical sciences, associate professor V. Denysiuk.

During the year 2015, the following results were obtained:

1. 1 candidate's thesis.

2. 2 monographs and 2 textbooks.

3. 34 articles in professional scientific journals, 4 articles in other scientific publications, 14 theses of scientific conferences reports.

4. 1 article in a foreign scientific publication.

5. 2 patents for utility models.

6. A state budget research project "Technological support and stabilization of the quality of the surface layer of bearings on grinding operations with intermittent circles" is conducted under the direction of  the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Instrument Engineering Department - V. Marchuk.

7. All-Ukrainian competition of student's scientific   works on natural sciences, technical and humanities in the field of "Standardization, certification and metrological support" has been held.

        The department has postgraduate studies in specialities 05.11.05. Devices and methods of measuring electric and magnetic quantities, 05.02.08. Technology of mechanical engineering and doctoral studies in the speciality 05.02.08 Technology of mechanical engineering. Since 2011, at the department there is a specialized academic council K32.075.06 for the  defence  of PhD  theses on the speciality 05.02.08 Technology of mechanical engineering. During this period, 6 dissertations were defended at the specialized scientific council. The Department of Instrument Engineering publishes a collection of scientific works "Perspective Technologies and Devices", which  gives  the opportunity to publish the results of scientific research leading scientists of Ukraine.


Educational and laboratory base of the instrumentation engineering department  


             The formation of the material and technical base of instrumentation engineering       department of the Lutsk National Technical University is based on the principle of necessary sufficiency. The department has created a modern material and technical base, which allows to organize a high-level educational process.

             The material base of the Instrument Engineering Department is located in laboratories, the total area of ​​which is 359 m2. The computer class is equipped with 12 PCs, in which students carry out laboratory work on various disciplines, work on the Internet, prepare graduation papers and diploma projects.

             Teachers and students use the inter-departmental research laboratory for technological measurements, where the following works can be carried out:

1. Measurement of the components of cutting forces;

2. Measurement of geometrical parameters of the cutting tool and general purpose parts;

3. Measurement of dynamic parameters of elements of metalworking equipment (vibration, stiffness, vibration velocity, vibration acceleration, etc.);

4. Measurement of temperature processes of blade and abrasive treatment;

5. Measurement of microgeometric and physical-mechanical parameters of surfaces of parts (roughness, wavelength, hardness, operational parameters);

6. Measurement of illumination of premises and electric measurements;

7. Measurement of electromagnetic radiation parameters;

8. Measurement of the equivalent dose rate and photon-ionizing radiation density; measuring an equivalent dose of photon-ionizing radiation; measuring the accumulation of an equivalent dose; measurement of beta-particles density;

9. Definition of metal type (color or black);

10. Detection of hidden metal objects;

11. Determination of the thickness of the coating and homogeneity of the metal;

12. Determination of the condition of structures in hard-to-reach places on the external grounds;

13. Verification and setting of zero marks horizontally and vertically.



         In the educational process, PCs were used on disciplines "Computer technologies ", "Electronics", "The theory of automatic control", "Special issues of designing devices", "Mathematical modeling of devices and systems". Students have the opportunity to use the Internet and other office equipment. A  graphic projector and a multimedia projector are used  for lecture classes.

        The department co-operates in the direction of passing the industrial practice with UPU number 9 (Lutsk), OJSC "Electrothermometry", OJSC "SKF Ukraine", State Enterprise "Volynstandardmetrology", State Enterprise LRZ "Motor", Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital, Lutsk City Clinical Hospital and Volyn Regional Children's Territorial Medical Association.

      In 2008-2012, teachers and students of the department participated in the Swiss-Ukrainian project "Perinatal Health", as well as participated in the introduction of telemedicine technologies in the health care institutions of  Volyn Oblast.

      In February-March of 2016 the Department conducts advanced training courses for engineering and technical workers of  Volyn oblast health facilities on metrology and measuring equipment and medical devices and systems.

          The department cooperates with the Lublin Polytechnic, Rzeszow Polytechnic and the Higher Technical and Economic School in Yaroslav (Republic of Poland).
