Lutsk NTU  at the Festival of Active Citizens

"Active Citizens Festival" was held in Lutsk  during June 20-23. More than 100 participants from all over Ukraine gathered to explore the impact of the Active Citizens project on small communities and establish partnerships between participating organizations and the communities in  Volyn  region.

The event   was   dedicated  to  the 5th anniversary of the British Council  and its  program  "Active Citizens"  in Ukraine  and  to the 10th anniversary  of this   program   in   the world. The students   of   Lutsk NTU participated actively in the festival, the  co-organizers were Haranchevska  Iryna and Petryk Demian, as well as  the participants from  Lutsk NTU   and  a partner of the British Council - the coordinator of international projects Khvorost Khrystyna,  Didukh Anna  and Bakun Olga.

Lutsk is one of the most active cities in the program. For three years the basic training "Active Citizens" was held in 20 settlements of Volyn. More than 60 social action projects received financial support from the British Council.

Participants of the festival visited 11 communities of  Volyn region, which participated in the program, namely: Zymniv, Smidyn, Rozhyshche, Ustyluh, Novovolynsk, Lytovezh, Kivertsi, Ivanychi, Manevychi, Boratyn and Kniahynynok.

During two-day expeditions, the participants met with local communities, learned about implemented projects and helped  to  implement at least one social project in each community.

So,  they  painted a bike park in Manevychi, which the community had previously prepared independently. The program participants bought pipes, squeezed and attached them, and in Kivertsi, they updated the summer scene for local youth -  young people  painted walls, floors, made pallet sofas. In Zymniv community  the festival participants shared the opportunities for self-development  with  local children and jointly developed ideas for community improvement.

Olga Chepel, along with the festival team, was in Zymniv  and shared her  thoughts on working with the residents: "In fact, for the community  it was even important to communicate with the participants of the festival,  share experiences, hear new ideas and ways to solve familiar situations. Everyone understood something for  oneself  that could only happen during the festival. "

In honor of the anniversary celebration, the British Council hosted a competition for social projects, where the authors described the success stories of their projects and competed for supporting the project with a grand prize of 30,000 hryvnias.

The event was opened   by   the   Director of the British Council Simon Williams and  the Chairman of the Youth Platform Zakhar Tkachuk. Participants of the contest defended their projects at the grand celebration in the castle  Liubart.   The public space  “Maiak”,  located on the Prut River in Chernivtsi,  won the program.

Khrystyna  Khvorost  told  about the festival experience of the participants from Lutsk NTU: "It was a wonderful festival of social all-national interaction, creative cooperation, productive dialogue and a wonderful result of social work. We are proud that one of the finalists of the contest was our designer Anna Didukh with her project "Master-class on  Volyn embroidery", which professionally distributes Volyn identity and popularizes Ukrainian traditions in modern society ".

In addition, the representative of the admission committee of Lutsk NTU Viktoriia Anishchuk presented information about the University  on the marketplace. She also told the youth about the possibilities of study at the University, especially the faculties and international activities.

The organizers and participants got good impressions from Volyn. They  promised to conduct  several more  trainings and events in our communities. Therefore, the community of Lutsk National Technical University is grateful for the excellent cooperation with the British Council and the Active Citizens' Team. In addition, the participants from the University were happy to see  the professionalism,  good  coordination of the team work and the high level  of  holding a grand event, which gathered a lot of interesting and socially active personalities from all over Ukraine that inspired others to new victories and good deeds for the benefit of the Ukrainian society. Thanks,  and we are looking forward to  the next meetings and   further fruitful cooperation.
