Lutsk NTU and the British Council in Ukraine Announce a Competition of Projects

The Student Council of the Lutsk NTU and the rector of the university Petro Savchuk have been conducting the competition, or Pitching in support of Social and Innovation Projects in Lutsk National Technical University. The British Council in Ukraine and NGO ‘Youth Platform’ support this event. The total budget of the contest is 200 000 UAH.

The main objective of Pitching is to support social and innovation initiatives that promote a comprehensive development of the Lutsk NTU, as well as to collect ideas for social projects, the implementation of which will bring together students, teachers, and other active citizens.

Thus, Pitching was opened in the Lutsk NTU on May 5. Iryna Haranchevska, a head of the Student Council of the University, moderated the event.

Firstly, the rector Petro Savchuk greeted the students and professors: ‘It is twice as pleasant to me that the LNTU is the partner university of the Student Council and the public organization ‘Youth Platform’, headed by Zakhar Tkachuk. They are trying to bring changes in the Volyn region and draw attention to the problematic issues. Owing to the powerful support of the British Council in Ukraine under the leadership of Simon Williams, we piloted a creative idea of Pitching. This is a competition of projects for the development of one of the most powerful universities in the Volyn Region and Ukraine. This project will serve as an example of how to work on the implementation of youth initiatives. The university will help with funding of the most successful projects. Unfortunately, the Regional Council does not particularly fund such projects today. Hopefully deputies will get involved into such activities in the future. Thank you all for your interest! Let us become the example to the authorities and neighboring regions!’

In addition, Iryna Haranchevska denoted that the Student Council financially joined to the organization of Pitching: ‘I address to every college, faculty, department, trade union committee, etc. to take part in this competition of projects. The main objective is to give you a chance to progress personally, to develop a project and defend it, to be able to participate in larger projects. Moreover, such Social and Innovation Projects in your education institution are important for you to feel comfortable there.’

The head of the NGO ‘Youth Platform’ Zakhar Tkachuk said: ‘We did not hesitate to choose the Lutsk National Technical University to arrange Pitching with, because this institution is the official partner of the British Council within the frameworks of the Active Citizens Program. Then, Zakhar specified the terms of the competition. 'All ideas need to be submitted by May 20, 2018. They should be aimed at the development of education, leadership, culture, sports, intercultural dialogue, and social entrepreneurship in Lutsk NTU. The idea will then be evaluated by experts. If it is innovative, interesting, and useful to the university, facilitators from the British Council will help to elaborate the idea and draw up a plan of its implementation. Upon completion, it is necessary to present the project to the Competition Commission, which will decide on the support of the initiative and its financing. By 30 November 2018, these projects will have been implemented.'
